Do you love to sing? If so, we want to hear from you!

The Ilminster Belles is a friendly, inclusive SSA choir, singing in three parts for female voices: First Soprano, Mezzo Soprano and Alto.

Our members span a wide range of ages and levels of musical experience, but we all share one thing: a real enjoyment of singing. Choir singing builds confidence and strengthens self-esteem. It's a great way to relieve stress. And, best of all, it brings people together – creating a sense of community and friendship.

Do I need to be able to read music?

No. Many of our members do not read music: the only requirement is that you are able to sing in tune. We do learn from sheet music, but our Musical Director and section leaders are on hand to help if you need any support with this.

Do I need experience of singing in a choir?

Again, no. Car-singers and shower-singers will receive as warm a welcome as choir-singers!

Can I try out some rehearsals before I decide whether to join?

Absolutely. It's important for you to get a feel for the choir, and the best way of doing this is to join us at rehearsal. Once you have attended two rehearsals as a trial (free of charge), you can decide whether you would like to join.

Will there be an audition?

No, you do not need to pass an audition to join The Ilminster Belles. Once you have completed your two-week trial, Our Musical Director, Jonathan, will carry out a voice check. This is simply to test the range of your voice, and ensure that you are allocated to the appropriate section. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

When and where do you rehearse?

We rehearse every Wednesday during term time from 7.30 to 9.00pm in the Minster Rooms, Ilminster.

Is it mandatory to perform in concerts?

No, but we highly recommend giving it a try. Members find concerts to be confidence-building and uplifting – and we'd love you to experience this!

How much does it cost to join the Ilminster Belles?

There is a one-off joining fee of £10, and thereafter a subscription of £12.00 a month.

Are there any age restrictions?

We welcome new members aged 16 or over. Beyond that, there are no restrictions – you are never too old to join a choir!
